Grizedale Forrest and Whinlatter Parks

Here at our Lake District hotel Chestnuts we will point you in the right direction to find either Grizedale or Whinlatter parks. There is walks, orientering, mountain biking or nature trails there is some thing for everyone who like outdoor activities

 

The lake District has two Forest Parks at Grizedale in South Cumbria and at Whinlatter in North Cumbria. The Forest Parks are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

Each Forest Park has a Visitor Centre at its heart with a shop, tearoom, toilets, disabled facilities, car parks and information points. These are open from mid January through until Christmas annually, usually 7 days a week from around 10am until 5pm.

Grizedale Forest Parksculpture-finding, cycle-riding, wildlife-watching

Welcome to Grizedale Forest Park in the heart of the world famous Lake District National Park

From the all access Ridding Wood trail to the demanding Silurian Way, from the Tearoom to the Sculpture trails, Grizedale Forest Park offers an unrivalled day out for everyone.


Check out "Go Ape" the unique high ropes course provides a challenging aerial adventure only found in 3 other Forestry Commission locations in the UK.

 

Start your day with a visit to Grizedale Visitor Centre and let our friendly staff help you choose your activities for the day ahead. cycling, walking, Go Ape, sculpture guides and waymarked trails are all available or create your own adventure



Whinlatter Forest ParkWelcome to Whinlatter Forest Park Englands only true Mountain Forest.Rising to 790 metres above sea level Whinlatter Forest Park offers spectacular views of the Lake District and into Scotland.

Make friends with the Giant Badger who lives next door to the Visitor  Centre or learn about food webs on the junior foxtrot trail or enjoy some high altitude retail therapy in the Forest Shop.

From May to September annually see the wild Bassenthwaite Ospreys raising their young chicks through the live video nest link.
