Angling Clubs in the lake
District
Cumbria has a wide selection of angling clubs and associations. They
work hard to provide their members with a high standard of sport and,
whether large or small, enrich and protect the fishing for local and
visiting anglers. Many associations are based around their locality and
were set up to protect the fishing for the local population, some may have
a residency clause for you to become a member. However, most clubs make
fishing available for non-members even if this is restricted to guests of
members.

Kent Angling
Association
Kent Angling Association has a two tier membership system depending
whether you are a local resident. Day permits are available. For further

Kendal Coarse Angling Club
Kendal Coarse Angling Club has fishing on several waters around Kendal and
is a member of the British Waterways Canal Permit Scheme. The Membership
Secretary is Martin Smyth. Tel: 015394 42051. New members are welcome and
day permits can be obtained for KCAC waters.
Staveley Angling Association
The Association controls the fishing on the River Kent and its tributaries
around Staveley Village.
Burneside Angling Association
Coniston and Torver District Anglers' Association
The Association has fishing on Yew Tree Tarn and a section of the River

The Furness Fishing Association was formed in 1950 and was originally all
one club. Since then it has seen its membership grow and a need for more
dedicated sections to be formed. Today it consists of 5 sections covering
all aspects of angling and a shooting section. The Coarse Fishing Section
averages a membership of 300 a year, with a quarter being junior members.

 The
Lake District is seen as a predominantly game fishing area and
most local tackle shops carry a wide range of trout and salmon
fishing equipment. Life gets a little more difficult for the
coarse angler as not all shops carry specialised coarse gear or
bait. You should have no problem getting maggots during the main
tourist season but in winter these can be more difficult to
source. Baits such as squat, pinkie, bloodworm, joker and caster
are virtually impossible to obtain from most shops in Cumbria.
Most shops now carry blast frozen pike baits and shelf-life
boilies.

Vera and Bob Carlson have run this tackle shop in Kendal for many
years and have a wide knowledge on all aspects of Lake District
Fishing. Whilst mainly a game fishing shop they do have a good
range of coarse gear and stock maggots during the main season.
They offer an excellent guiding service, both here and in more
exotic climates, and have a superb website with lots of local
information, venue reports, tips and techniques, an online shop

This superb little shop is run by Alan Dixon and is crammed with
coarse, sea and trout tackle. Alan is keen on vintage tackle and
has a wide selection of some angling classics such as older Abu
Cardinal and Mitchell reels. If you are looking to buy or sell
second hand tackle Alan is the man to see. The shop stocks maggots
all year round and has a good selection of groundbaits, pellets
and carp baits. Alan sells day permits for many Ulverston and
Barrow fisheries as well as WADAA Visiting Membership permits.
